Attack on Kawasaki Motors Europe: RansomHub group publishes 487 GB of stolen data

15.10.2024

In September 2024, Kawasaki Motors Europe (KME) fell victim to a ransomware attack claimed by the RansomHub group. Although the company stated that the attack was not entirely successful, the servers had to be temporarily isolated, and a data recovery and verification process was initiated. Despite these efforts, RansomHub still published 487 GB of stolen data on Dark Web portals, containing sensitive information such as bank records, dealer details, and internal communications.

Kawasaki confirmed that thanks to the quick response of the IT team and cybersecurity experts, 90% of server functionality was restored within a few days, allowing operations to resume. The company rejected the ransom demands from the RansomHub group, which led to the publication of the stolen data. The loss of this data highlights the urgency of strengthening cybersecurity measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Beyond the damages and costs already incurred, dealing with the legal consequences of the data breach could result in further long-term expenses, especially if violations of data protection regulations are uncovered.
